Vitamin D - preventative care for the Winter to come

Vitamin D is good for bone and muscle health, but here I’ll be talking about the immune boosting benefits of this supplement.  

In France and all of the northern hemisphere, our sun exposure will diminish due to shorter days and more cloudy skies.  Since this time of year is accompanied by cooler temperatures, we wear more covered clothing and we are no longer as active outdoors.

In cities with elevated pollution levels, fewer UV rays will reach us and any UV protection we apply on our skin will block most rays anyway, even during summer.  

Without exposure to the sun, we are not getting sufficient Vitamin D, a crucial ingredient in our immune health.  Therefore, our immune systems will benefit from taking Vitamin D supplements.  Think of this as preventative care, helping you avoid colds and flus or at the very least providing you with the ammunition to keep colds short and with a lesser toll on your body.  Last year I followed my own advice and the Winter was sniffle-free.  Our immunity is also boosted by exercise, so be active and eat warm, nutritious meals!

Common recommendations are for 2000iu/day from October through April/May, that’s 5 drops a day.  But consider taking 4000iu/day especially if you have many colds, an auto-immune disease or are over 60 years old.  If you are on medication, speak to your doctor about taking this supplement.  The drops can go in a small glass of water or your favorite beverage.  Take at breakfast, so you won’t forget and that way you are good to go for the day!
